The police also installed CCTV cameras at beachfronts where devotees are expected to immerse idols of Lord Ganesh from Friday.Īs usual, crowds thronged outside the homes of film stars and celebrities to watch them celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. "Leave of all police personnel were cancelled in Mumbai and 15,000 security personnel including state reserve police, riot control force and the bomb disposal squad have been deployed on the roads," according to a police spokesperson. In Mumbai alone around 3 lakh idols of different sizes have been installed at public venues homes according to the Brihanmumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvay Samiti (BSGSS), the umbrella body of Idols of the elephant-headed Lord Ganesha of different shapes, sizes and colours were installed at homes, public spaces and on the streets as the ten-day Ganesh festival began across Maharashtra amidst tight security.
